Circus heritage in Wales

During the spring term we worked in partnership with Abercynon Community Primary School. Through the project, pupils created a  performance with a circus heritage in Wales theme at it’s heart. Year 6 pupils gave their input while Forget-Me-Not devised a Greatest Showman style performance that celebrated circus heritage in Wales, The project was funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund Wales.

HERITAGE RESEARCH WORKSHOP AT CYNON VALLEY MUSEUM

Do YOU Remember the First and Only Time the Circus Came to Abercynon? KS2 pupils at Abercynon Community Primary School researched local heritage at the Cynon Valley Museum. Pupils explored the local history of Abercynon and circus traditions in Wales. They have also learned all about the first and only time the circus visited Abercynon in 1904. They then developed a script and performance based on this story.

CIRCUS SKILLS WORKSHOP WITH NO FIT STATE CIRCUS

The staff and pupils at Abercynon Community School worked very closely with our heritage partners (Cynon Valley Museum and No Fit State). No Fit State circus also visited the pupils and did a whole school circus workshop.

EXPLORING MEMORIES AND HERITAGE OF ABERCYNON

During the research stage of the project, pupils also went to local family businesses in Abercynon and interviewed the shopkeepers to uncover hidden memories of Abercynon, asking questions about a local archive newspaper story.
